We continue to follow all city of Chicago mandated guidelines regarding mask-wearing for all inside activities. As a courtesy to your fellow peers, our instructors, and staff, please bring your own mask if currently required and choose to participate virtually if you are feeling ill in any way. GROUP DANCE CLASS CALENDAR

OFFERINGS:

Dance Instructor Oscar Urbina currently offers adult group classes in beginner to intermediate level Bachata partner-work and footwork, aka "shines".  He can also offer general private lessons and Wedding Dance private lessons in Bachata, Salsa, Mambo, and Cumbia.

DANCE EDUCATION & HISTORY:

Oscar started dancing at a young age. Later on, he transitioned into teaching & choreographing.  Oscar coached and directed Hubbard Bachata Club (high school dance team) for 12 years. During this period of time, the team was able to obtain 1st place in all three high school dance competitions hosted in Chicago under his direction. Oscar has trained with some of Chicago's top dance professionals. He first danced with Zeke Ruvalcaba in the "Bachata All-Stars" and also performed for "Alma Latina Chicago" for several years under the direction of Sarah Zuccaro and Jorge Soto. Additionally, Oscar performed with "Legacy Dance Association" a professional dance team for 2 years and trained under the direction of Reynaldo Sanchez, Priscilla Perez, and Maria Torres.

Most recently, Oscar has been part of "Kachimbo Dance Company" since it began in 2017.  Kachimbo is a prestigious professional team under the direction of Angel Martinez and Jessica Montalvo. In 2019, Oscar founded "Amicitia Dance Company" along with Karen Romero. They both coach and direct this youth dance company in the southside of Chicago. Since it's start, it has grown to be the home for almost 40 young dancers. Overall, dance instructor Oscar Urbina has studied with many of the top professional dancers from both the U.S. and Mexico.  He continues to train consistently, therefore developing into one of Chicago's up & coming dance instructors.

Oscar has also been a consistent competitor throughout his amateur & professional dance career. Some of his competitive accomplishments include the following:

• Chicago High School Dance Competition 1st Place - 2016, 2018, 2019
• Pro-Am Bachata Miami Latin Dance Championships 1st Place - 2016
• Latin Street Amateur Bachata Contest 1st Place - 2017
• Bachata "Who's Got Werk" Competition 1st Place - 2017
• Wisconsin Bachata Open 1st Place - 2017
